Temporal Importance Abstraction for Automated Storage Reclamation

ثبت نشده
چکیده

This work focuses on scenarios that require the continual storage of large amounts of data. Such systems require the ability to either continually increase the total storage space or reclaim existing contents. Traditional storage systems provide persistence for all stored objects to perpetuity, relegating object reclamation to applications. Our key insight is that not all of the new data are equally important. Exporting this knowledge of the object importance from the application to the storage system could potentially allow the storage system to extend the service range by selectively reducing service levels. In this work, content creators explicitly annotate the object using a temporal importance function. This information allows the storage system to selectively weaken the persistence guarantees offered by the storage and evict less important contents. We also introduce the notion of storage importance density to quantify the importance levels for which the storage is full, allowing the content creators to choose the appropriate importance levels for their objects.

Retrieval–travel-time model for free-fall-flow-rack automated storage and retrieval system

Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RSs) are material handling systems that are frequently used in manufacturing and distribution centers. The modelling of the retrieval–travel time of an AS/RS (expected product delivery time) is practically important, because it allows us to evaluate and improve the system throughput. The free-fall-flow-rack AS/RS has emerged as a new technology for dr...

Automated Techniques for Quantification of Coastline Change Rates using Landsat Imagery along Caofeidian, China

This paper focuses on automated extraction and monitoring of coastlines by remote sensing techniques using multi-temporal Landsat imagery along Caofeidian, China. Caofeidian, as one of the active economic regions in China, has experienced dramatic change due to enhanced human activities, such as land reclamation. These processes have caused morphological changes of the Caofeidian shoreline. In ...

Leaky regions: linking reclamation hints to program structure

This paper presents a new mechanism for automatic storage reclamation based on exploiting information about the relationship between object lifetimes and points in a program’s execution. In our system method calls are annotated to indicate that most of the objects allocated during the call are expected to be unreachable by the time it returns. A write barrier detects if objects escape from one ...

Edelweiss: Automatic Storage Reclamation for Distributed Programming

Event Log Exchange (ELE) is a common programming pattern based on immutable state and messaging. ELE sidesteps traditional challenges in distributed consistency, at the expense of introducing new challenges in designing space reclamation protocols to avoid consuming unbounded storage. We introduce Edelweiss, a sublanguage of Bloom that provides an ELE programming model, yet automatically reclai...

Robotics, Temporal Logic and Stream Reasoning

The area of AI robotics offers a set of fundamentally challenging problems when attempting to integrate logical reasoning functionality in such systems. The problems arise in part from the high degree of complexity in such architectures which include realtime behaviour, distribution, concurrency, various data latencies in operation and several levels of abstraction. For logic to work practicall...
